Acetal
High-strength, rigid, low-friction engineering plastic with good wear properties

Acetal (Polyoxymethylene - POM)
Acetal (polyoxymethylene or POM) is a high-strength, low-friction engineering plastic that possesses excellent wear properties in both wet and dry environments. Acetal is chemically resistant to hydrocarbons, solvents, and neutral chemicals. Easy to machine, acetal is an exceptional choice for applications requiring complex, tight tolerances.
Homopolymer vs. Copolymer
Acetal is available in two versions: homopolymer and copolymer.
- Homopolymer Acetal: Offers greater strength, rigidity and toughness at room temperature.
- Acetal copolymer: It offers better performance in continuous high temperature and hot water environments, as well as lower porosity compared to the homopolymer.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ACETAL?
Acetal, also known as polyoxymethylene (POM), is a durable engineering plastic with high strength, low friction, and low moisture absorption. Acetal offers excellent wear and abrasion resistance in both wet and dry environments and is easy to machine, making it ideal for applications requiring precise, tight tolerances.
What are the disadvantages of ACETAL?
- It may present porosity (small microscopic gaps in its structure).
- Low dimensional stability.
- Difficult to bond with adhesives.
- Complicated to print or paint.
What is ACETAL used for?
Acetal is used for bearings and bushings, pump and valve parts, manifolds, gears, food processing and packaging machinery parts, wear pads, wear strips, and many other applications.
